Shadow Hunters: Aka How to Ruin an Amazing Book Series in Under 50 Minutes

Yesterday, Shadow Hunters premiered on ABC Family (I refuse to call it Freeform). It is a show based on a popular book series called The Mortal Instruments written by Cassandra Clare. Now the book is truly amazing and worth reading. It shows the adventures of a girl named Clary, who discovers a whole new world that has been hidden from her. A world full of monsters of myth and legend. Clary is a part of race that descends from angels called Nephilim. These people fight the demon world  to keep regular people or “mundanes” safe. Throughout the series we watch as Clary becomes strong and learns more about what she is capable of. She makes new friends and powerful enemies.

But this isn't about Mortal Instruments. This is about Shadow Hunters, the tv show. Or, as I like to put it, basically taking the names of the characters from this amazing book and running with them.

To put it simply Shadowhunters is like a cop show ( criminal minds or law and order) but with bad acting and monsters. They aged up the characters and dropped them in the modern world. So it's kind of like if they gave Harry Potter a cellphone and told him to fight crime.  Almost none of it lines up with the book at all. So anyone who is a fan of these books probably shouldn't even watch the commercials unless they feel like crying uncontrollably at the sight of this massacre. For anyone who’s never even heard of the books, if you like good television I wouldn't recommend watching this show. What do you think? Watched the premiere and actually liked it? Comment below!
