Artist Watch: Jose Parla

   

                              

       Jose Parla is an amazing artist. He’s one of the top 25 young painters you really should get to know. Parla is a Brooklyn based artist who is known for his paintings, architectural collaborations, sculptures and photography. His work has received critical acclaim and lies between the boundary of abstraction and calligraphy. Basically, his work is awesome. He even recently hit Cuba with the brilliant street artist JR for a series of murals at the Havana Biennial.

Parla was born in Miami to Cuban parents. His early work heavily involved graffitti. As a teen, he hit Miami regularly using the name Ease.  His current art incorporates calligraphy and build up to resemble distressed walls.  When asked about his influences Parla said, “Historically, walls have exhibited the voice of the people. My earliest painting were made on walls at night. My thought and impulse behind the gesture was as primitive as that of cavemen marking and drawing in their dwellings to assert their existence in a place and time.” Jose Parla is an amazing artist that should definitely gain more recognition.

Ole Miss Vs Memphis

The likelihood of Ole Miss reaching the Playoffs this year most likely ended Saturday, as they lost to Memphis 37-24. Ole Miss held a 14-7 lead up until Robert Nkemdiche, defensive end for Ole Miss, was literally knocked out while running the ball on offense. One Nkemdiche was taken off the field, Memphis turned the tide with 24 unanswered points, including scores on four consecutive possessions. The Tigers’ quarterback, Paxten Lynch, got the offense fired up. With no running game to aid, the Junior finished the game with 384 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception. 1-264 Shooting

        

The I-264 shooting happened on Saturday, when three young men were arrested for an early morning shooting on Interstate 264 in Virginia beach. Trooper I.K Ibrahim heard a sound of a gunfire while on patrol near the I-64/I-264 interchange around 1:40 a.m Friday morning. A mysterious vehicle traveling east on 1-64 refused to stop, but after a brief pursuit, the vehicle finally stopped along the eastbound lanes of I-64 near Greenbrier Parkway. The driver of the mysterious vehicle, 25 year old Stefan Idele of Newport News, was charged with carrying a weapon, shooting from a motor vehicle, and driving with a suspended license. But he wasn't alone. There were two other passengers with him, Charles Weeks and Chadon Burton, both of whom were charged with shooting from a motor vehicle. All three were booked in the Virginia Beach City Jail without bail and declined interviews. The incident remains under investigation after the discovery of two handguns. Although there were no injuries from the shooting, the three boys will still be made to serve time.  What do you think? Comment below!
