What if everyone in a community came together to help a man in need? What if that community was willing to work for just the sole motive of helping another in need? The what if turned into reality, when sailors and neighbors came to help out Nick Salter.
Naval Petty Officer Nick Salter has stage four skin cancer that has gotten progressively worse since 2007. His family supports him as much as they can, but with two mortgages and the medical bills, a foreclosure would have been the last straw to a humongous pile. Salter's family has been trying to sell their Chesapeake house for the last five months, but due to jobs and appointments, keeping the house 'Home and Garden' pretty has been on the back burner. His friends and fellow sailors went to the house and began the house transformation. WAVY TV 10 conducted an interview with Salter and the volunteers on August 25. The incredible thing is that a couple weeks later, WAVY 10 conducted another interview on September 10. The reporters found out that volunteers have flocked to the house and yard, "at one point almost 200 volunteers." Roofing and painting companies have also responded by giving free service. An entire community full of kind people and businesses found the motivation to help one in need, and the need is still being met.
