Chicago Police Chief Fired

Chicago police chief, Garry McCarthy, was fired over the death of seventeen year old teen, Laquan McDonald. McDonald was brutally shot 16 times by a police officer. This was announced on Tuesday during a news conference about Garry McCarthy. He was hired by Mayor Emmanuel just before his inauguration.Mccarthy was not released from police chief after meeting with Emmanuel on Monday night at city hall, but was later fired after Mayor Emmanuel reached him through a phone call and gave him the news. The day McCarthy was fired, he was interviewed on the radio giving no indication that he was no longer police chief. McCarthy was on the radio show talking about the killing of Laquan McDonald. Jason Van Dyke,  the officer who shot and killed Laquan Brown, had been charged with first degree murder. This death is just one of many deaths that have happened in the past six months alone. Even with McCarthy’s termination, this still does not make up for the violent death of a child. Will drastic change be made or will the killings increase as the years pass us by? New York Politician Convicted of Fraud

Written by Billy Coles

Powerful New York Politician Will Soon Know Fate

On November 30, Sheldon Silver, one of New York’s most respected and powerful representatives for two decades, was convicted of abusing his office. He used his position to obtain as much as $4 million in illegal bribes and kickbacks. Now I really don’t have a lot of sympathy for him. I mean, come on Silver, if you were going to steal money, why not make it a number you could probably pay back or at least come close? Unfortunately, the court didn’t appear to have a lot of sympathy either. Following a three week trial, Sheldon was found guilty of the fraud, extortion, and money laundering charges, which he will not be able to get out of.
Silver probably could have retired and been good for the rest of his life. At seventy one years old, he was one of the “big three” so to speak: grouped together with the governor and the state Senate majority leader. Under the state’s governance system, the three of them virtually control all legislation. If Sheldon had not been so greedy, he’d probably still be dreaming about his future retirement, instead of dreaming of a jail cell.  But what can I say? The Bible does say that the love of money is the root of all evil. What do you think? Feel bad for the old guy?
