Chicago police chief, Garry McCarthy, was fired over the death of seventeen year old teen, Laquan McDonald. McDonald was brutally shot 16 times by a police officer. This was announced on Tuesday during a news conference about Garry McCarthy. He was hired by Mayor Emmanuel just before his inauguration.Mccarthy was not released from police chief after meeting with Emmanuel on Monday night at city hall, but was later fired after Mayor Emmanuel reached him through a phone call and gave him the news. The day McCarthy was fired, he was interviewed on the radio giving no indication that he was no longer police chief. McCarthy was on the radio show talking about the killing of Laquan McDonald. Jason Van Dyke, the officer who shot and killed Laquan Brown, had been charged with first degree murder. This death is just one of many deaths that have happened in the past six months alone. Even with McCarthy’s termination, this still does not make up for the violent death of a child. Will drastic change be made or will the killings increase as the years pass us by?
