Powerful New York Politician Will Soon Know Fate
On November 30, Sheldon Silver, one of New York’s most respected and powerful representatives for two decades, was convicted of abusing his office. He used his position to obtain as much as $4 million in illegal bribes and kickbacks. Now I really don’t have a lot of sympathy for him. I mean, come on Silver, if you were going to steal money, why not make it a number you could probably pay back or at least come close? Unfortunately, the court didn’t appear to have a lot of sympathy either. Following a three week trial, Sheldon was found guilty of the fraud, extortion, and money laundering charges, which he will not be able to get out of.
Silver probably could have retired and been good for the rest of his life. At seventy one years old, he was one of the “big three” so to speak: grouped together with the governor and the state Senate majority leader. Under the state’s governance system, the three of them virtually control all legislation. If Sheldon had not been so greedy, he’d probably still be dreaming about his future retirement, instead of dreaming of a jail cell. But what can I say? The Bible does say that the love of money is the root of all evil. What do you think? Feel bad for the old guy? Comment below and let us know if you have any sympathy for Mr. Silver.
