Kobe Bryant: The End of an Era

Kobe Bryant: The End of an Era

Kobe Bryant's retirement announcement was a tough one to hear. Written in a poetic style, Kobe’s announcement stunned and shocked fans. Kobe has been one of my favorites throughout my childhood and though we’re sad to see him go, we have to admit that he has reached his physical limits with basketball. His mind is there but his constant string of injuries have prevented him from playing these last few years.
Kobe's 2012 season involved two severe ankle sprains that sidelined him for quite a bit of time. To add insult to injury, well, injury to injury, he also suffered a torn Achilles. In the 2013 season he had Achilles surgery, and then suffered a fractured left knee. Bryant's seasons have been riddled with multiple injuries and setbacks. So, while we like to imagine that legends will live forever, Kobe’s body has finally stopped following his heart.

Even though I figured this would be his last season, it is still is heart breaking to see Kobe go. I guess other hardcore fans and I will have to come to terms with his departure. The Mamba will always be one of the greatest, and I know that everyone will savor his last moments of this year. Even if the end of the Lakers season is less than memorable, I hope that people at least remember all the amazing things that Kobe did for the Lakers and the entire league.
