(How We) Save the Reefs!!

Research Station CARMABIThis is not a cry to rally, but more to be aware. Videos, presentations, and books within the last 5 years mostly say that the coral reefs around our world are dead, dying, and threatened. Many marine biologists and environmentalists say, "SAVE THE REEFS!" The problem arises when radio silence follows a simple question, "How?" Dr. Kristen Marhaver is a researcher at the Carmabi Caribbean Research and Management of Biodiversity. She spoke at TED Talk and explained that her team are researching to solve the problem of the dying reefs. Kristen explains that her team has received positive results from baby coral who have been tested with bacteria filled environments. This is great news because many coral reefs are only filled with bacteria and slime, instead of live organisms and strong, hard coral. At the end of the video, she comments that the need is greater in the labs Kristen works in. There are not enough hands in the labs, money for lab equipment, nor conservation equipment that can save the thousands of harmed reefs. Her presentation was not a cry to rally, but a cry of victory and recognition of the long road ahead for recovering the coral. Below is a link to her TED talk. Watch for yourself!
