This Monday, President Obama gave a very heartfelt speech about the victims of gun violence. He remembered the children of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting while wiping tears from his cheeks. Obama was introduced to one of the parents of one of the 20 children killed 3 years ago. “Every time I think about those kids it makes me mad, he said while surrounded by advocates of gun reform.
“We need to feel the fierce urgency of now because people are dying,” said. Obama. Invoking the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Obama called for quick action and promised more executive actions about the subject from the White House. While these controls would certainly not end all of the violence, things like required background checks at every purchasing stop, could go a long way. Like the President said, “We’re here to stop the next mass shooting.”
