A building supervisor in Spain by the name of Joaquín García was recently fined $30,000 for skipping work for six years straight. He somehow managed to receive his paycheck even though he never showed up for work. The only reason people noticed he hadn't been working was because they showed up at his office to award him and found that it had been abandoned. Ironically, the award he was supposed to receive was to honor him for 20 years of service to the company.
Over the course of the six years he missed work, he received his usual $41,500 salary. According to people who were close to him in his life, he started studying philosophy. He claimed that he was being bullied at his workplace but he never reported it for fear of being fired. A $30,000 fine was the highest penalty the government could give him.
