Ok, so I was a little off on the Super Bowl prediction. Actually, I was way off. I picked Carolina to win the game 35-14 and they didn’t even reach the 14 as Denver won the game 24-10. The Denver Broncos beat Carolina, but it’s not quite as convincing as you would think. The Broncos had 194 total yards, the fewest for a winning team in a Super Bowl. Offensively the Broncos played poorly. Peyton Manning had only 141 yards passing and no touchdowns. CJ Anderson only ran for 90 yards and their leading receiver had 83 yards. Their defense however, was spectacular. Super Bowl MVP Von Miller had a showing though. He finished the game with 2.5 sacks, six total tackles, two forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries and one pass defended. I watch Miller destroyed that Panthers offensive line in a way that I had not witnessed all year. Cam Newton got a lot of heat for not showcasing the dominant Carolina offense, but I say hold on and let’s face facts. Johnathan Stewart is the Panthers pro bowl running back and he finished with 29 yards, I don’t know how many drops the Panthers receivers had, but it all streams back to one place, the offensive line. Being someone who plays football as a lineman, I know that the game of football is won and lost at the line of scrimmage and Carolina sucked at the line of scrimmage yesterday. Cam was sacked 7 times yesterday which is a super bowl record that they share with the greatest defense of all time, the 1985 Chicago Bears. So in all honesty to blame Cam for the loss is a bit ridiculous. In my opinion this falls entirely on the offensive line.
Some fun facts from the Super Bowl: Peyton Manning became the oldest quarterback to start a super bowl at age 39. Manning also became the first quarterback to win a super bowl with 2 different teams as a starting quarterback and he won his 200th game. He also moved into 2nd in postseason passing yards behind only Tom Brady. Jordan Norwood had the longest punt return in super bowl history with 61 yards. And a final fun fact, in the last 12 super bowls the team wearing white came out on top. So after what I would call an extremely boring super bowl the broncos proved they were the better team.
