With a record of 2-6, the Dallas Cowboys are really struggling this season sitting in last place of the NFC East behind the Giants, Eagles and Redskins. Dallas kicked off the season hot with a 2-0 start with victories over their rivals the Giants and the Eagles. Unfortunately, this success was short lived. In week one, the Cowboys lost All-Pro Wide Receiver Dez Bryant to a broken foot injury. Week two saw Eagles linebacker, Jordan Hicks, lay a massive hit on All-Pro Quarterback, Tony Romo, breaking his collarbone and his dreams of playing for awhile. Romo-less, the Cowboys have sunk like the Titanic, losing six straight games to the Falcons, Patriots, Saints, Giants, Seahawks, and Eagles and making this their longest losing streak since 1999 when they went 1-15.
It seems like Dallas just doesn’t know how to keep its players healthy, on the field and out of the spotlight. Even though God has frowned on the Cowboys since the mid-90s, they were many people’s Super Bowl pick this year. However, the injuries just haven’t stopped. In fact, the Cowboys have tried to replace Romo with Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel, but, after eight games, Romo is still 2nd in touchdown passes with three, while Matt Cassel leads the team with four. Playmaker, Dez Bryant, returned two weeks ago against the Seahawks and had a very pedestrian day with 2 catches for 25 yards, even though in last weeks game against the Eagles, he had over 100 yards and a touchdown. Linebackers Sean Lee and Anthony Hitchens both left last week’s game against the Eagles with injuries and did not return. Preseason starting running back Joseph Randle was cut 2 weeks ago due to off the field issues.
Right now, it seems as if the Cowboys are as analyst Stephen A. Smith says “an accident waiting to happen.” The Cowboys biggest problem has come from the absence of a dominant presence at quarterback. Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel have been given the task of trying to replace Tony Romo; however, the two have only six touchdowns and six interceptions while throwing only 183 yards per game. The Cowboys will hand the reigns back to Romo with either a 3-6 or a 2-7 record. The blessing is that they play in the NFC East where only the Giants (5-4) have a winning record. Five of the Cowboys last eight games are on a bittersweet road for Romo, who hadn’t lost a game in two years. I believe the Romo- less Cowboys will beat the Dolphins, Panthers and Redskins, lose to the Packers, and then win their last against the Jets, Bills and Redskins giving them either a 9-7 or 8-8 record. 9-7 could be enough to win the division, but it will be determined how well the Eagles will finish and how well the Giants defense can play for the rest of the season. As a Cowboys fan, I’m extremely biased, so of course I think the Cowboys will win the division. To be fair, ff I weren’t a Cowboys fan, my pick would have be the Giants due only to the fact that they have a fantastic offense and their defense can drag them into the postseason. Though it won’t matter because I don’t believe that whoever wins the NFC East will win the Super Bowl. So, how bout them Cowboys?! Defeated or Not? Comment your thoughts below!
