Quote of the Day

"Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same."
-The Fray

Always try to do the right thing even if it's hard. The hardest things in life, most of the time, are the right things to do. Try to befriend that person who most people don't like. Let people see God shine through you. Are those things popular? Are those things easy? NO! But it's beyond worth it in the end.

A "Saintly" Birth

Like the British awaited the birth of their new princess, America awaited the birth of who will soon be one of the most famous babies to be born. The Kardashian-West clan just welcomed a new member to the family. Only 2 years ago, North West was born. Everyone was shocked at Kim and Kanye's name choice. While it is pretty just like the little girl herself (that girl is so adorable not to mention her left shoe is probably worth more than my house) it has become somewhat of a joke on the internet.

Multiple celebrities with unique last names joked about how they'd do the same thing with their future kids. Until yesterday (December 7, 2015) people were guessing what the new baby's name would be. Hoping for another directional name such as East or South. (Editor Zoe was hoping for Easton.)  But Kimye shocked us all once again. So we welcome to the world Saint West.

While it is not the name we expected it isn't terrible. Im sure there will be lots of praise and hate on twitter about it just like when North’s name was announced. Now we await the first sneak preview of baby Saint. What do you think about the name? Comment your thoughts below!

Real or Fake?

One of the biggest symbols of the Christmas season is the Christmas Tree. We see them everywhere: stores, businesses and of course each other’s houses. Some of us, like myself, have a plastic tree that we use every year. We string on the lights, add the decorations, etc.

However, other people go and buy real trees. Personally I don't like real trees. In order to keep them healthy you have to keep them watered. The lights on the tree start to heat up and can cause the tree to catch fire. The needles fall off and cover your floor in sap. When they start to die the tree begins to look dry and the branches start to fall off.

Sure the trees look pretty if they are well taken care of but so do plastic trees. There are even realistic looking plastic trees. Don't be a hallmark character and assume that a real tree symbolizes “the true spirit of Christmas.”

Quote of the Day

"Life is like a box of chocolates...you have to try everyone else's before you get your own."
-Justin Phillips

It's just what it sounds like. No elaboration necessary. Also, like life, chocolate is a really good thing to be grateful for. Just saying.

Top 10 Christmas Movies

We all have some of our favorite Christmas traditions. From listening to beloved albums to eating the best cookies ever, there are just certain things that Christmas wouldn’t be the same without. For me, nothing says Christmas like coming together and watching old Christmas classics. In the spirit of the season, here is a list of some of my favorite Christmas movies.

10. Frosty The Snowman

Who can forget everyone’s favorite snowman? He even comes with his own song. We all remember watching Frosty at Christmastime. His warm heart melted even the coldest of attitudes and helped us truly enjoy Christmas.

9.  The Year Without Santa Claus

Now we all know how big a part Santa plays in the Christmas season. So of course our childlike hearts loved a story that showed just how much we really needed Santa. Plus, who can go a Christmas season without the Snow Miser VS Heat Miser songs?

8. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

http://schmoesknow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/How-the-Grinch-Stole-Christmas-christmas-movies-17364921-1067-800.jpg

This Christmas story, written by Dr. Seuss, tells all kids that the true meaning of Christmas does not come from Hoo-horns or the great Hoo-Tree, but from the small kindness in a little girl with horrible ponytails. Also, who could pull off that color green but the Grinch himself?

7. It’s a Wonderful LIfe

https://pmcvariety.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/its-a-wonderful-life-sequel.jpg?w=670&h=377&crop=1

This movie has been preserved through the years as a feel good movie where a tissue box is right beside popcorn. This movie is arguably as tear jerking as Miracle on 34th Street, but definitely not as heavily endorsed by Macy’s. Plus it made a whole generation really like bells.

6. The Santa Clause

We all remember growing up watching the Santa Clause. Nothing says Christmas like watching Tim Allen have a mid-life Christmas crisis. Plus, by the third installation of the series, we just really wanted Santa to catch a break.

5. Home Alone

We all know that Home Alone is a true Christmas classic. No other movie taught us that we really don’t need our parents. Regardless of the fact that they made me seriously underestimate any burglar, this is still one of my favorite movies.

4. Elf

Buddy the elf what’s your favorite color? Yep Christmas and Will Ferrell in extremely tight tights go hand in hand. Plus, this movie gave thirteen year old me the best idea for breakfast. Let’s just say, syrup and spaghetti doesn’t taste as good as it looks.

3. A Christmas Carol

What can I say. Christmastime. A Christmas Carol. This classic story has been remade so many times that people can hardly remember a time before it. We also love to call people who don’t give us enough presents a Scrooge.

2. Nightmare Before Christmas

What's this?! Not surprisingly this movie is a favorite. While some choose to watch it during Halloween, I like to stay true to its original title. Plus, who doesn’t want to imagine Santa as a skeleton named Jack? This movie is a gem to be treasured by family and hot topic teens alike.

1. Charlie Brown Christmas

This lovable cartoon probably best represents the Christmas spirit for me. Whether it’s that decrepit looking tree or the magic of hearing Linus recite that super long Bible verse, A Charlie Brown Christmas always helps me get into the holiday season. Thanks Charlie Brown!

Overall, these are some of my favorite Christmas movies. Have a favorite that didn’t make it on to the list. Comment them below! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Currently, health official are investigating the ingredients to their food so they can figure out the problem. Chipotle has already switched to different ingredients to prevent problems like this in the future.  After these outbreaks, Chipotle stock has dropped tremendously. The first lawsuit pertaining to the illnesses dropped this week. Let’s hope that they figure this whole poisoning situations soon, otherwise people might actually have to go to Moe’s for their burrito fix. What do you think? Still going to eat at Chipotle’s? Quote of the Day: December 8th
Stop letting people who do so little for you control so much of your mind, feelings, and emotions.
-Will Smith

No one should control you...especially people who only like you when you do something they want you to do. I've gone through that and it's hard to realize that the opinions of those people don't matter; however, when you do, you're so much happier. For your own sake, be you no matter what anyone else says.

New Device Plugs Gunshot Wounds???

A new device, called XStat, may be able to reduce the rate of military deaths. How? By plugging severe gunshot wounds with antimicrobial sponges that are able to stop bleeding in as little as fifteen seconds. The sponges have an X-Ray detectable marker so when wounded arrive at the hospital the patient will be treated immediately. This device was funded through the U.S Army to address a the rapid numbers of deaths by gunshots.  As of Dec 7, the XSTAT is FDA approved for adults and Adolescents. Each sponge contains an X-Ray tracer for easy detection. The XSTAT has certain limits on where it can be used on the body. I plan on seeing if this device can get any more helpful. I know this will be great for combat zones, but I wonder if it could be used in other places. Can you imagine it? One of these at your local CVS? What do you think? Comment your thoughts below!

Quote of the Day: December 7th

"If you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you'll learn things you never knew."
-Pocahontas

Don't judge someone based on their lifestyle. You don't know what people are going through until you take a walk in their shoes. Get to know people rather than judging them immediately. Doing this can help you really get to know people, instead of being immediately judgmental and fake toward them.

Protect the Perfect Season or the Starters?

That is a decision Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera may have to make in less than a month. To me, it isn’t a hard one. You protect the starters, and you let 16-0 fly out the window forever. If the 12-0 Panthers can get to 15-0, they will have already clinched the homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoffs entering the regular-season finale Jan. 3 at home against Tampa Bay. If that happens, I would bench Cam Newton for that entire game. Why? Because Newton is both the Panthers’ franchise and, to me, the NFL’s Most Valuable Player this season. Carolina won’t win the Super Bowl without him. And that’s the big goal, whether it comes attached to a 19-0 or an 18-1 or a 17-2 season.

McMillian Wants 1k

This season,  Virginia Tech running back Travon McMillian is shooting for 1,000 yards. As a redshirt freshman, McMillian has started in six out of the twelve games this season. He only has thirty nine yards to go before he reaches his goal and and he has a chance to accomplish it at the independence bowl on Dec. 26. If he gets 1,000 yards, he’ll  be the first running back at Virginia Tech since 2011 to run for 1,000 yards. Former Tech running back David Wilson ran for 1,709 yards in 2011 but McMillian is hoping to run past it.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."
-Tim Notke

Even if you have a natural talent, you still need to work to improve it. Natural talent and ability can only get you so far. Hard work is the best way to get even better at something, and definitely will always trump laziness. Life lesson right there…

The Return of "Samurai Jack"??!??!

SAMURAI JACK IS BACK!!!! Or at least, it will be soon! The beloved, four time Emmy winning cartoon series is getting a REBOOT on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. We still don’t know a lot about when it will be officially brought back as it was just very recently announced, but we do have a confirmation for sometime in 2016. The announcement was made by the original creator of the show, Genndy Tartakovsky who is in charge the re-boot. Along with the announcement, Tartakovsky also included this epic poster, which seems to promise the same, if not similar art style that we all knew and loved:

How do you feel about the reboot news? Excited? Nostalgic? What about its new home, Adult Swim? Or maybe you just want to talk about how awesome the show was! Comment below! Let’s get a nerdy conversation going!

2016 Grammy Nominations!

Grammy Nominations
The 2016 Grammy nominations are HERE! As expected, Ed Sheeran, The Weekend, and Taylor Swift are heavily represented, but it was Kendrick Lamar who received the most (eleven!) nominations, mostly for his extremely well received rap album “To Kill a Butterfly”.  Taylor Swift comes in at second place with seven nominations, which, if history repeats itself, means that she will probably take home seven Grammys. Besides these obvious front runners, there were several surprises, like Drake’s diss track towards Meek Mill “Back to Back” earning a nomination while his certified hit “Hotline Bling,” did not.
(I’m only showing a few nomination highlights, because who really cares about the rest of the awards, to be honest, but you can see the rest here if you want.)

DIY Picture Wall

Making a picture wall is something extremely easy and fun to do. First, you need to print all of the pictures at a place like Walgreens or CVS. It is not insanely expensive, I printed out about a hundred and twenty  pictures for fifteen  dollars total. Once you order the pictures and pick them up at the store, you can tape them to your wall however you like. You can use twine and clothes pins instead of tape if you want.

On my door (i couldn't use my walls because i didn't have room) i taped around fifty of my personally favorite pictures that i have taken. To make this more artsy, i added some colorful lights around the door. There are many different ways you can arrange the pictures. Lights are optional but I personally love them because it gives the wall a little something extra. Also if any of the pictures start to fall off you might need to find some stronger tape. I used duct tape because none of the other tape i had would stick to the door.

Overall, i think this turned out pretty great. But don’t take my word for. Try to make a picture wall at your house and comment what you did below! Think your picture wall turned out great? Post it and tag us on social media!

76ers Break Thier Losing Streak

This weekend the Philadelphia  76ers finally broke their streak of losing. I was definitely right in thinking that the 76ers would win before the Golden State Warriors would lose. Going into the game, the 76ers had a lot riding on their backs. If they lost, it would have meant an NBA losing streak record. Apparently, the 76ers brought enough of that fire to win the game. The Lakers star, Kobe Bryant, had a great game but he did not play well enough to stop the 76ers. Richard Covington and Jahlil Okafor were able to keep their team from losing in the game and breaking the record. While their next game against Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks resulted in a loss for Philly, their break in streak shows that the 76ers CAN actually win a game. It has been a pretty rough season for the 76ers, especially since it’s a rebuilding year, but let’s hope that there’s more in store for the rest of their season.

MLB Free Agent Destinations

Well, baseball season is over we’re now entering the pre-season free agency time. So who are the best free agents and where will they land this off-season? Here are my top five.
  1. Jason Heyward.
Jason Heyward has been a staple in the outfield for the Cardinals in the last two seasons. He is consistently a dominant defensive outfielder and rarely lets a ball get past him. Not only is Heyward one of the most consistent defensive players in the MLB, but he is also a great offensive player. In 2015, Jason Heyward had a very productive season, finishing with a .293 batting average, 13 homeruns, 60 RBIs and 79 runs scored. He was a threat even in his rookie season when he won the Rookie of the Year. Heyward would make a fantastic player in any outfield. The team that he would work best with is the Yankees. The Yankees are an aging team that still has the potential to do good things. Jason Heyward is young and can bring youthfulness to an aging franchise. With Heyward, the Yankees outfield would be dominant with Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Jason Heyward.
  1. Justin Upton
Justin Upton is the best all around offensive player still available in the free agent market. Upton finished 2015 with a .251 average, 26 homeruns, 81 RBIs and 85 runs scored. He is consistently hitting upwards of 20 homeruns and 80 RBIs so he has definitely become a valuable offensive asset on the market. So where does Upton end up? The team he needs to go to is the Texan Rangers. The Rangers roared back last year after having little to no expectations earlier in the year. The Rangers outfield is a bit rusty and could use Upton’s hitting ability very much. Upton would be joining outfielders: Shin-Soo-Choo and Leyonis Martin who both are very talented players, but with the rest of the Rangers outfield being either rookies or castaways, the Rangers definitely need an outfield with good batting ability.
  1. Chris Davis
Chris Davis is the best pure hitter on the market right now and one of the best home run hitters in the game. Davis posted a .262 average, 47 home runs, 117 RBIs, and 100 runs over the 2015 season. Over the past three seasons, no player in baseball has hit more home runs than Davis’ 126 bombs and he has led the league in home runs in two of the last three years. So who needs Chris Davis the most? The St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals and Cubs are now the best teams in the NL Central and will be competing for the top spot this coming year. The redbirds are a powerhouse hitter away from winner yet again another World Series ring. Davis would be the perfect fit, considering that he is the best power-hitter in the game the Cardinals could not make a better move. They are the best team in the league when it comes to small ball but they need to bring in that one guy that can consistently knock one over the fence. If the Cardinals make this move, watch-out!
  1. Johnny Cueto
Johnny Cueto was at one point an front runner for the Reds. He was dominant in every start and was extremely consistent. In the mid-season, he was moved to the Royals and played a big part in their World Series victory. Cueto finished 2015 with 11 wins, 13 losses, a 3.44 era and 176 strikeouts. Though his win-loss record isn’t amazing he still has a solid era and high strikeout rate. Johnny Cueto belongs with the Cubs. Cueto is a front line starter and would make one of the best 1-2 starters in baseball behind Jake Arrieta. This is such a good fit because we know that Cueto is great in the NL and especially the NL Central. He dominated the teams in his division in his time with the Reds. The Cubs are one dominant starter away from the World Series so if the Cubbies make this move, mark my words, in 2016 we will hear “Your 2016 World Series champions, your CHICAGO CUBS!”
  1. Scott Kazmir
This is my dark horse pick. Scott Kazmir is one of those guys who struggled in the beginning of his career, but has found his groove over the last few seasons. Kazmir is a valuable piece for a two reasons. Reason 1: He has had an era under 3.60 over the last two years and last year was in the Cy Young talks. Reason 2: He would be a valuable teacher to younger players. Scott has been through a lot in his career with many injuries and a need to redefine his game. So who need this player the most? The Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays made it all the way to the AL title game this year and lost to the eventual World Champs, the Kansas City Royals. The Blue Jays already have the best offense in baseball and not many would argue that, but they need to be able to pitch. Their best starter at this point has been Marco Estrada who is slightly above average at best. The Jays could really use Kazmir because is talented. He maintains a low era and he can help teach the young staff on this team. The Blue Jays have two young starters who I think can do great things in Marcus Strowman and Aaron Sanchez. These two could be the keys to success for the Blue Jays. They are young and have plenty of raw talent, but the Jays also need that experienced teacher-like player who can lead them to the Promised Land. I think that player is Kazmir.
There you have it: the top five free agents still on the market and their destinations. Who do you think is the most valuable and where will they go? Feel free to comment below and give your opinion.
